Taking Care of Myself

Taking Care of Myself

Before & After

Being healthy to me is not about a # on the scale, it’s not about my BMI score or even about my dress size.

When I started on my journey to become healthy my goal was not to be a size 0 but to have the energy to play with my kids. I was tired of sitting on the sidelines and watching them play but not having the energy to join in on the fun.

It is nice to feel good about the way I look and feel, I am not going to lie, that is a wonderful side affect of taking care of myself.

If I was concerned about numbers I am afraid I might be more down on myself…. Why can’t I loose those last ten pounds? Why can’t I fit into that size 6 dress?  What is wrong with me?

I don’t want to be stressed over calories or weighing and measuring my food for the rest of my life.  I have found what works for me and is easily maintainable for me.  And although technically my BMI score says I am overweight, I don’t feel overweight.  I have the energy I need and I feel good about myself.  I want you feel Healthy and Sexy too!

Eating right is essential to your health and so is being physically active which is where I started on my journey.

Building muscle actually increases your metabolism and helps you burn more calories.

If going to the gym and running on the treadmill or lifting weights is not for you then don’t do it! Find something that you enjoy, something you are going to want to do. I was never one to like “working-out”, until I found something that I actually enjoyed doing, something that wasn’t monotonous and tedious.

Now when life gets in the way and I don’t make it to class for a week or two or three or more (because yes that still happens to me too) that enjoyment that I have in my work-outs gives me that extra motivation to go back.

I know that as soon as I am able to get back on track it isn’t going to be a “chore” and something I am going to have to make myself do. I look forward to it. That is what I want you to find for yourself….. something you miss when you can’t do it.

I think it is great to make it a family affair too or find a friend to be active with, whatever you need to do that will help you be successful! Try going for a walk or bike ride with the family around the neighborhood. Play tag with your kids, jump rope or hula hoop with them. Pick up a sport that you haven’t done before, you might find you actually enjoy it: basketball, soccer, tennis, badminton, volleyball, racquetball, the local YMCA even has fencing classes!

Try being active during commercial breaks by doing jumping jacks, mountain climbers, burpees, or planks and try to do it throughout the entire commercial break. Don’t feel bad if you can’t do it for very long at first, before you know it you’ll be able to keep going for minutes at a time!

Be ActiveI know you can do it!
